You have plenty of ways to make profit from blockchain, but some people choose playing games and earning much less, then they could for trading or flipping NFTs 🕹. We can also face loads of controversial opinions and hate on P2E. Why that and how long will the euphoria or negation last? Let’s see 👀.
A quick reminder for the ones, who are new to crypto:
What is a P2E game?
A P2E game is a kind of decentralised application that rewards you for playing some game or getting achievements in it. You might get your prize in the game’s domestic tokens or in some other more stable tokens 🪙.
And now back to the topic.
Why play games at all?
To understand the perspectives of hype we have to understand the reason for it first, so let’s learn a little psychology 🧠.
There is a specified “magic circles” concept, that carries a statement about regular actions becoming huge successes under some specific circumstances. Those circumstances are what defines a game - doing some action, that becomes harder than usual because of the restrictions you have to face. Those restrictions are the rules and the competition inside your game. Would you be impressed if some individual threw a ball into a hanging net? Probably not 😒. However, would you still be unimpressed if that ball gets into the net during the NBA finals? ⛹️
People want to entertain themselves and games are a great way of entertainment. You only understand the value of that last goal, when you know the circumstances of it.
Why to hate though?
If we switch the focus from the real life games, to digital games, while still keeping the magical circle idea in mind, things will get even more complicated 🤯.
Magical circles correlate with the so-called “Flow” phenomena 🌊 (and no, we are not sponsored by Matic, unfortunately). When a player enters the flow, he loses touch with reality and prioritises the in-game world rather than the real one 😵💫.
With the real life games you will get only benefits from the flow, developing your skills and picking up new ones 🔝. However, every digital game requires financing for creation, thus creating a major problem for players - getting charged money for playing the game 💸.
Most non-decentralised players are used to be thought of as a milch cow 🐮, that game production corporation suck money from. Buying new in-game items, skins and even games themselves becomes very addictive and sometimes can even destroy a life like a casino would 🎰.
That is the reason for all the hate towards decentralised games. NFTs are only a tool of monetisation for those players and they don’t see the bigger picture - just another way to fool them 🤡.
Why is blockchain so useful for gaming?
Even though some people don’t get it, blockchain actually has a purpose in games.
For players
In-game non-fungible tokens will remain their value even after the game is discontinued. All the technical “assets” you would get in your average non-decentralised games are basically borrowed from the game studio itself and don’t have any user’s ownership outside the game. On the other hand, blockchain gives you complete control over your tokens 😎.
Assets have a clear history. There is an opportunity to buy an asset, signed by a cyber-sportsman with no need to do any legit checking - blockchain doesn’t hide any routes or owners, that the assets go through 🤝.
Gamers are also able to influence their favourite projects using DAOs and social media 📢. Everyone can be heard here - unlike traditional gaming, an opinion-ignoring monopoly isn’t established.
For developers
The main reasons for using blockchain as a developer would obviously be easier monetisation, investment search and higher connectivity with other products - there are thousands of two-way bridges, that allow you to transition the assets between different applications 🌉.
Blockchain has a lot of utility and can impact gaming significantly - it is just a matter of time until old-fashioned gamers realised where the future is ⌚️.
This is the end of our speech on why do people play games and why are decentralised games superior to regular. We really hope you were able to explore something new and not just read through raw facts 😴.
