Erik, the creator of Art Blocks, started showing interest to crypto in early 2017. His first goal was to own a full BTC, later he discovered ETH.
Firstly, ETH seemed to be Bitcoin’s cheap copy-paste, but after exploring what smart-contracts are for a while he understood that ETH is future. Indeed, it was…
First thing he did was gifting 10 ETH to a newborn daughter of his friend. Smart-contract, he wrote, restricted usage of coins gifted till the baby was 18 years old. Then, it only costed a 100$ - now it costs more than 35.000$.
For some time he only used to hold crypto. It was so, until he bought a CryptoPunk for 35$. Buying a digital only picture for real money made Erik look mad then, but something inside was telling him he was doing everything right.
Seeing CryptoPunks grow, he decided to start his own project. By the end of 2017 he started working on a picture creation algorithm, that could be easily convertible for artist’s needs.
Obviously, artist’s were interested in Eric’s idea. There were more and more projects listed on his platform day after day. Now they needed to be controlled and sorted. Art Blocks’ team started looking for people and now there are 25 art critics rating and approving or dissaproving people’s entries for Art Blocks.
Even being top-3 on OpenSea Eric is sure Art Blocks still has lots of potential. There are lots of people, who are connected with art and don’t know about NFT yet. Art Blocks are aimed at them.
